Hijack and Kidnap and Ransom are high conflict incidents that sit far outside the natural experience and knowledge of most maritime businesses and vessel owners. A high emotional involvement, the irregular nature of the incident and simply not knowing what they are dealing with makes managing or negotiating towards a resolution extremely difficult without specialist help.

MAST has a specialist department that deals exclusively with helping the shipping community manage the Hijack/K&R experience, from sourcing information about the hijackers, conflict dialogue and managing threats to managing the media, the practicalities of a ransom situation and preventative measures for the future. Our objective is to ensure that the client's negotiation remains focussed and brought to a successful conclusion without unnecessary loss of time, injury avoidance and reduced financial impact.

MAST delivers proven and flexible response methodologies for all stages of an incident. We can also support detailed contingency planning and can act either in an advisory or front line role. This specialist department is led by Peter Astbury a leading 'crisis fixer' and intermediary facilitator to resolve issues of conflict.

Our focus is on the safety of the ship's crew, download our brochure.

'Our Hijack/K&R response is led by Peter Astbury who has extensive experience in hijack and ship detentions and is formally the Area Director (Japan) for the UK P&I Club. He has hands-one experience of Somalia giving him a unique insight into handling sensitive negotiations.'
